![]() ![]() ![]() I prefer fantasy, you know dragons, swords, castles and far away kingdoms. Navigating the Stars is the start of a new sci-fi series and it does not disappoint. and suddenly time isn't the only thing working against them. I wait in anticipation for the day her books are released and then I read them in one sitting. But that's just the beginning, because they're not as alone as they thought on their new planet. The only person close to her age is the annoyingly irresistible security officer who threatens to throw her into the brig. After the planet they just left goes silent - meaning no communications from them at all - security has bigger problems to deal with than Lyra, especially when vital data files go missing. Her social life in ruins, she fills her lonely days by illegally worming into the Q-net. As the Galaxy's leading experts on the Warriors, Lyra's parents are thrilled by the new discovery, sending them - and her - fifty years into the future. What they didn't expect to find is life-sized terracotta Warriors buried on twenty-one different exoplanets. ![]() ![]() But that never stopped Lyra's ancestors from exploring the Milky Way, searching for resources and exoplanets to colonize. It's all due to the invention of the Q-net, which made traveling the vast distances in space possible - with one big caveat: the time dilation. Thanks, Einstein.Seventeen-year-old Lyra Daniels can't truly blame Einstein or her parents for their impending move across the Milky Way Galaxy. “The answer is no, Lyra,” my mother utters her favorite - I swear - phrase. No means I have to travel with them to another planet - again. No means leaving all my friends fifty years in the past. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Her anger, and almost despair were flowing off the page. It was easy to like Susan, she was so determined to not take on the parenting of another group of children only to find herself with four step-children who were nothing like the well-behaved angels she met on the eve of her wedding. Mail Order Madness is full of charm, humor and very boisterous little boys. I look forward to more books in this series. I loved David and the boys and while I understood why Susan was so tough she was definitely rough around the edges. When Susan finds out she is definitely not happy. What I had so much fun with was the fact that David's sons were such trouble makers but he paid them to behave so he'd get a wife. Unfortunately David fails to tell her he has four sons who are heathens. Left with no other option she accepts David's proposal for marriage. When Susan goes to Texas to marry Jesse she meets his older brother David who informs her that Jesse was killed several weeks earlier. ![]() ![]() She's tired of caring for her out of control siblings and working in child care that she becomes a Mail Order Bride. Susan is one of 12 kids, her parents were really hard on her and the three children born after her but by the time they had the last eight they were know around town as the demon horde. Mail Order Madness is book 3 in the Brides of Beckham series and yet another enjoyable read. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Whether you read one of them or all of them, I can guarantee that each of these books will give you a much deeper appreciation for the strengths, failings, and lasting influence of this complex man.Ĭonservationist – The Wilderness Warrior: Theodore Roosevelt and the Crusade for America by Douglas Brinkley. books, each delving into a specific facet of his life and work. So, I’m offering up a few of my favorite T.R. The reality is that T.R’s presidency was only a small portion of his life’s work-work that spanned the full spectrum of careers, from sedentary, high-brow intellectual pursuits to the action-packed violence of war, with a variety of wide-ranging jobs in between.īecause he was able to fit several lifetimes of work into his 60 years, understanding T.R.’s impact on history requires much more examination than what any single, measly biography can offer. I’m only half joking when I tell people that Theodore Roosevelt’s time as President was the least interesting aspect of his life. ![]() I was expecting somewhat of a challenge to be made against their highly unethical practices. ![]() Killing innocent wolf pups in the name of genetic purity is on the same level as killing one of your own to eat, in my opinion. It irked me to no end that Clans of wolves were considered "noble" as opposed to the cannibals living on the outskirts. The other issue I have is that the way the society of wolves was portrayed. ![]() It started to pick up around the end, but it was too little too late for me. It didn't help that the main character doesn't have that much of a personality. The beginning was very exciting, but the first two parts were uninteresting. The first one is that it is horribly dull. There were two main issues I had with this book. I had enjoyed what I had read of Lasky's Ga'hoole series, and I was expecting this to be comparable in quality to that. ![]() I was really surprised that I didn't like this one. ![]() ![]() As for Ehrman's beliefs, as a child, he was an altar boy in the Episcopal Church. ![]() His books such as "Misquoting Jesus" and "How Jesus Became God" challenge a lot of beliefs and common wisdom. In the new book, "Heaven And Hell: A History Of The Afterlife," my guest Bart Ehrman writes about where the ideas of heaven and hell came from. Your beliefs about what happens after death or if anything happens might shape how you're dealing with your fears and anxieties. Let's face it - the pandemic has made death a presence on a scale most of us aren't used to.
